| 318 A Block |
|
The "wide" block 318 was introduced in 1957 and was the predecessor to the
LA family of engines. It was never conceived to be a performance engine,
more of a "bread and butter" engine that would be reliable and get good
gas mileage. The standard engine was rated at 230hp, but there were a
few performance versions in various years. A 4 Barrel version was rated
at 260hp and in 1957 there was a duel 4-barrel version that was rated
at 290hp. In 1967 the new LA version of the 318 was introduced, which
was 60 lbs lighter do to new casting techniques. We include the old
version 318 because it was the mainstay of so many early mopars.
