| 1966-67 Dodge Charger |

The legendary Dodge Charger was introduced in the 1966 body year. It was originally inteded
for a 1965 body year release, but it didn't quite make it. The Charger was intended to be
the flag ship for Dodge and to give a more "performance" appeal for their lineup. It was based
off of the Coronet line and used the same chasis, driveline, and suspension. It shared a lot
of the same sheet metal up front, but it was destinct in its own right with the "Fastback".
The base engine was the good ol' reliable 318A. Engine options in '66 included the two-barrel
361 and 383, and also the 383 Magnum at 325hp. Of course, the mighty Hemi was also an option
later in the model year. In 1967 there were a few minor exterior cosmetic changes, and some
interior changes. But the big news was the introduction of the 440 Magnum V8, a cheaper
performance alternative to the Hemi.
The styling is a love/hate relationship... most people either love the fastback look, or hate
it. But these early mopar performance cars are gaining in popularity.
